Dead Town Mike Chinakos 9781470094829 Books

Point number one: this is an urban paranormal horror novella. Point number two: it's a little absurd in the good way. The author took three characters who should all be secondary and made them the stars of the show. They certainly shine. My favorite is Doug the zombie, whose existential crisis is overshadowed by his own dumb inability to escape bad luck.

I did find Maggie's powers to be difficult to comprehend the limits of. At points, it seemed like she could do anything, which made some of the moments of peril seem a tiny bit contrived.

The characters embark on a Save The World quest which seems a tiny bit rushed in a few places, but overall is a wild, quick ride through an entertaining take on the whole undead/shapeshifter thing. It embraces cliches while mercilessly tickling them until they gasp and beg for mercy. However, be warned that it's not laugh-out-loud funny; I smirked and grinned through much of it.

I recommend this story for folks who like a twist on their undead, and a little humor with their horror.

Dead Town Mike Chinakos 9781470094829 Books Reviews

Dead Town has everything anyone would want in an entertaining story! I read it from start to finish in one read, and I could hardly wait to get to the next chapter to see what happens next. Mr. Chinakos is an amazing up and coming author who has a way of telling a story that captivates his audience. The plot and character development both move along in a fast-paced manner and I can't wait to read everything else he has written. Kudos to Mr. Chinakos for not being afraid to take chances in his writing.
From Doug the zombie to the sad heroin addicted to avoiding the realities of life, the author uses satire to examine life for the undead in a modern world. His description of the zombie trying to pick up on a pedestrian for a brain fix had me laughing out loud. This is an enjoyable quick romp, and I am not usually one for reading about vampires, zombies, or the supernatural.
If you like edgy fiction and rock and roll, you can't go wrong with this second Hollywood Cowboys novel! Good stuff maynard...
I loved, loved, loved this book! The Story, the characters, the style, this book had everything. I had a really hard time putting it down, which is funny, cause when I first read it's description, I thought... meh, sounds alright, what the heck, it's free. lol. Now that I finished it, I know I would have gladly paid for it. This book will keep you on the edge, the whole time, never a dull spot. There was a bonus chapter for Hollywood cowboys at the end and I got pulled so into that one, I'm buying it, now.
Dead Town is a good story. It has twists and turns that one wouldn't expect with Zombies and Vampires. (No, they don't sparkle!)

When reading this book, I forgot it was a story and I felt I was there in Dead Town. It is well written, and I tended to root for the Zombie...

It's not for Children. It does have strong language. But because of where the story takes place, it is expected. I just skipped over those words and enjoyed the story that unfolded.

I have both the Version and the paperback.
Forget China Town. The newest immigrants are from The Pit...zombies, vampires, shifters. Will the undead be the only ones with enough humanity left to save us all?

This book rocked! I was so afraid DEAD TOWN was going to be another mindless effort to see who could be the most emotionally and physically gruesome. I have never been so happy to be wrong! Chinakos found the perfect balance between unapologetic grit and raw heart. And the preview of HOLLYWOOD COWBOYS in the back...can't wait!

(The version I got had some cranky formatting, but I'm sure that has been/will be repaired, so don't let it throw you. It is NOT a sign of the quality of the storytelling.)
A quick, fun read reminiscent of Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Dead Town is a Whedon-esque tale of the near future when the "Coming" has opened the Gates of Hell on Earth, disgorging all the monsters of legend vampires, demons, zombies, and shape-shifters. Before they can bring about the End of Days, however, the Masters of the Watch come out of obscurity to stop them and seal the Gate with powerful magic.

Flash forward thirty years, the Masters of the Watch have gone from antiquated charlatans to the most influential people on Earth. And with the Gates closed, the monsters are stranded in our world, but over time they've integrated enough with society to be at least seen as second class citizens regulated to the slums of all the major cities of the world. Neighborhoods called "Dead Towns" where the rules are different. Tread there at your own risk, especially thrill seekers and losers chasing immortality of the undead variety

But the winds of change shift in ironic directions, leaving the salvation of the world in the hands of a heart broken Dead Town nightclub bouncer, a zombie seeking redemption, and a transfigured Voodoo-dust snorting addict.

When the world is turned upside down, is it still worth saving? Perhaps, but first "humanity" will have to be redefined.
Point number one this is an urban paranormal horror novella. Point number two it's a little absurd in the good way. The author took three characters who should all be secondary and made them the stars of the show. They certainly shine.
